Alice in Borderland

Based on the manga by Haro Aso, the first season of Alice in Borderland introduces us to Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), a video game enthusiast who becomes trapped in an alternate version of Tokyo where he’s forced to play life-or-death games in order to earn extensions on his “visa.” He doesn’t know how or why he’s there, but he quickly discovers that if he doesn’t play along, he risks being killed by lasers shot from the sky. As he tries to uncover the mystery of the games, he fights to stay alive by teaming up with his fellow players. The series earned a legion of fans thanks to a potent combination of lovable characters and a thrilling story, all set against the backdrop of a chillingly dystopian universe.

In the second season of the Japanese sci-fi thriller Alice in Borderland, nervous gamer Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) is still trapped in another version of his world: a dystopian Tokyo filled with deadly games he must win in order to survive. The more games he clears, the more playing cards he collects; and the more chances he has to finally go back home (or so he thinks).

In Season 2, Arisu is joined by those who survived last season’s massacre at the Beach: reflective and somber Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya), absentminded Tatta (Yutaro Watanabe), bafflingly mellow Chishiya (Nijiro Murakami), badass Kuina (Aya Asahina), unflappable Ann (Ayaka Miyoshi) and villainous Niragi (Dori Sakurada). Throughout the Borderlands, they must conquer a slew of lethal battles to collect all the face cards in the deck… and hopefully find out what all this (gestures wildly at entire series) means.

Alice in Borderland Season 2 takes place in two different Tokyos — the bustling city as it exists IRL, and an apocalyptic fictional version known as the Borderland
