First Look at Daniel Brühl as Karl Lagerfeld
Disney+ has today unveiled the first look of Daniel Brühl as Karl Lagerfeld in “Kaiser Karl (working title)”, the new French Original series which chronicles the rise of Lagerfeld through the world of 1970s Parisian high fashion, coming soon to Disney+ in 2024.
The year is 1972. Lagerfeld, aged thirty-eight, is a little-known fashion designer. After meeting and falling in love with Jacques de Bascher, he finds himself in competition with Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, the head of the most prestigious fashion brand around. And so, begins the story of “Kaiser Karl (w/t)”, a mix of romance, ambition, and a tireless quest for recognition.
“Kaiser Karl (w/t)” was created and adapted for television by Isaure Pisani-Ferry (“Ganglands,” “Vampires,”), Jennifer Have (“Unfaithful,” “The Red Band Society”) and Raphaëlle Bacqué, author of the eponymous biography, published by Albin Michel in 2019 and translated into six languages. The Original series is directed by Jérôme Salle (“Kompromat,” “Totems,”) and Audrey Estrougo (“Tout va Bien”, “Authentik”).
The artistic team brings together cinematographers Mélodie Preel (the French version of “In Treatment”) and Mahdi Lepart (“L’Absente,” “Grown Ups”), costume designer Pascaline Chavanne, hair artist Sébastien Quinet (“The French Dispatch”) and make-up artist Valerie Chapelle (“Lost Illusions”) and composers Sacha and Evgueni Galperine (“The Undoing”, “Oussekine”).
“Kaiser Karl (w/t)” is filmed in France. Executive producers are Gaumont and Jour Premier.
