Director Adura Onashile on Girl | BFI Q&A
The crew of Girl, a drama in which a young immigrant mother and her daughter attempt to forge a life in and around their Glasgow tower block flat, visit the BFI Southbank.
In Girl, Adura Onashile’s directorial debut, migrant Grace has carefully built a safe, confined world and routine for both her and her daughter Ama in their Glasgow tower block. Their special fortress and their cocooned relationship are tested when Ama must return to school.
Adura Onashile’s remarkable feature debut is a tender exploration of trauma and a precious dual coming-of-age story whose delicacy is buoyed through its expressive use of colour.
