Ready to off-road? Never mind a Rotten Tomatoes page, Toshio Matsumoto’s 1988 movie doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page; we’re a long way from Kansas now, Toto, but that’s no bad thing in this instance. Dogra Magra gets a blu-ray treatment for the first time outside of Japan with this welcome revival, and it’s very much in the esoteric wheelhouse of the Radiance label; the number of unheralded discoveries they provide is nothing short of phenomenal. Dogra Magra is a wild, cerebral thriller that’s been compared to Shutter Island; books like Toni Davidson’s Scar Culture and Iain Banks’ The Wasp Factory sprang to mind for me.The Matrix has to be another firm connection…..
