Channel 4 is set to bring Gilead’s gripping story to a close with the sixth and final season of the award-winning series, The Handmaid’s Tale coming to Channel 4 on Saturday 3rd May.

The channel has today unveiled the official trailer for the hit series, offering fans an exciting first look ahead of its upcoming UK premiere:

Seasons 1-5 of the critically-acclaimed dystopian drama are currently available to stream on Channel 4 ahead of the final series launch. Each episode of season 6 will go out weekly and then be added to Channel4.com.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Offred (Elisabeth Moss), one of the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful Commander and his resentful wife.

In the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character. This final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.

The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television. Series six is executive-produced by Bruce Miller (series creator), Warren Littlefield, Eric Tuchman (co-showrunner), Yahlin Chang (co-showrunner), Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Kim Todd, Daniel Wilson and Fran Sears.
