What to watch in December 2025

Welcome to December on Sky and the festivities are about to begin – how about we begin with a little night music? Joe Barton brings Peter Shaffer’s classic stage play to life once more as Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany star in a story of passion, obsession and divine brilliance. Amadeus strikes up the band on Sky and NOW. Also this December, our die-hard duo return for another series of challenges in Rob & Romesh Vs series eight, we discover the truth behind the scandal as we examine The Real Salt Path (w/t), and Kiefer Sutherland is an action star taking on his biggest test to date… (Oh no he isn’t!) Oh yes he is! Sky Original Tinsel Town makes its premiere on Sky Cinema, along with box office busting hits A Minecraft Movie and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.
Amadeus
Based on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play, and boldly adapted by Joe Barton (Black Doves, Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), this spectacular five-part reimagination explores the meteoric rise and mythic downfall of one of history’s most iconic composers — and rockstar virtuoso of the 18th century, Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart (played by Will Sharpe, The White Lotus).
When twenty-five-year-old Amadeus arrives in bustling 18th Century Vienna, no longer a child prodigy and craving creative freedom, his world collides with two pivotal figures: his fiercely loyal future wife, Constanze Weber (Gabrielle Creevy, Black Doves), and devoutly religious court composer, Antonio Salieri (Paul Bettany, A Beautiful Mind, The Marvel Cinematic Universe). As Amadeus’ brilliance continues to flourish in spite of his personal demons, a questionable reputation and scepticism from the conservative court, Salieri becomes increasingly tormented by this apparent divine gift. Amadeus is a threat to all that he holds dear in life: his talent, his reputation, even his faith in God, Salieri vows to bring him down. What begins as professional rivalry turns into a deeply personal obsession spanning 30 years, culminating in a murder confession and a desperate attempt to entwine himself with Mozart’s legacy forever.
Rob & Romesh Vs – Series 8
Our dynamic duo has returned! Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are back with another set of challenges set to test them to the limit. Having survived the UFC, Hollywood stunts and the high-pressure world of Formula 1, our brave heroes are traversing the globe to find four new feats to master.
This series, the boys are up against some of their toughest tests to date. They head to Mumbai to try their hand in the legendary Bollywood scene, visit New York to showcase their Hip Hop skills on the street and in the studio and venture into the Sumatran jungle to see who can snap the most exhibition-worthy photo for Wildlife Photographer of the Year, before heading home to tread the boards of The Globe and tryeth their best to wonder the crowds with their take on Shakespeare.
Never Mind the Xmas Buzzcocks
Hark! The herald angels sing! Never Mind the Buzzcocks is back on our screens for the traditionally raucous festive special, with Greg, Noel, Jamali and Sophie joined by 80s heartthrob and Christmas crooner Matt Goss, Jingle Belle Jessie J, and Santa admirer Guz Khan. All this, and some very special guests drop in for an all-star finale. Get out the sherry – it’s time to get merry.
The Real Salt Path (w/t)
On its release in 2018, The Salt Path became an overnight sensation. Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir of financial ruin, terminal illness, and healing through nature became a national obsession, the must-read for book clubs up and down the country. It captured the public imagination, sparking book tours, literary prizes and a runaway hit film starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. Raynor and her husband Moth were embraced by the nation, but their story was not all that it seemed.
When Observer journalist Chloe Hadjimatheou received an anonymous tip off, she picked up a copy of The Salt Path and read it with a journalist’s eye. Over the course of a months-long investigation, a new story began to emerge, pieced together through paper trails, interviews and testimony from those who knew the Winns before their walk began. The Observer’s findings hit the headlines on 5 July this year and stunned the public.
Now, with exclusive access to Chloe’s ongoing investigation as new whistleblowers come forward with their own versions of events, this Sky Original documentary from multi award-winning Candour Productions, digs deeper into the truth. With extensive investigative evidence and never-before-seen material, Chloe will venture further into what really happened on the Winns’ reckoning with The Salt Path. With their literary empire teetering on unstable ground, are there even more twists to this uniquely British page-turner?
Tea with Dame Judi Dench
Dame Judi Dench opens up her beautiful country home to longtime friend and sometime collaborator, Kenneth Branagh, in one-off special, Tea with Dame Judi Dench (w/t). Mozart on Sky Arts
To accompany the release of the Sky Original drama Amadeus, Sky Arts presents a series of insightful programmes based on Mozart and the most significant figures in his life. Leading these films will be Mozart: Genius for Hire, told through letters between Mozart and his father, Leopold, read by Matthew Broome and David Harewood respectively, this is the story of how the iconic musician broke free from the constraints of court employment to embrace a risky life as Vienna’s pioneering freelancer, defying tradition to compose, teach, and perform on his own terms. And in Mozart’s Women: A Musical Journey, Lauren Laverne presents the ENO Orchestra as they take us on a tour-de-force of female talent, putting the spotlight on Mozart’s relationships with his real-life leading ladies. And finally, in Mozart’s Sister, multi award-winning director Madeleine Hetherton-Miau presents a ‘musical-mystery’ story that explores the lost talent of Maria-Anna Mozart.
Tinsel Town
Brad Mac is a self-absorbed Hollywood movie star, famed for the action franchise ‘Killing Time’. But when the series is retired, he is forced to look for a new challenge. His agent sends him to do theatre in the UK, but to his dismay, he soon discovers that this is not Shakespeare on the London stage.
Cast as Buttons in Cinderella, Brad is horrified to learn he’s contractually bound to a pantomime – a British tradition he’s never even heard of. But as he meets the townsfolk of Stoneford, all of whom are devoted to this annual British Christmas tradition, Brad is forced to leave his ego in check. Can he pull off a panto and bring the local community together? Oh no he can’t! Oh yes he can!
