Tinsel Town
Brad Mac is a self-absorbed Hollywood movie star, famed for the action franchise ‘Killing Time’. But when the series is retired, he is forced to look for a new challenge. His agent sends him to do theatre in the UK, but to his dismay, he soon discovers that this is not Shakespeare on the London stage.
Cast as Buttons in Cinderella, Brad is horrified to learn he’s contractually bound to a pantomime – a British tradition he’s never even heard of. But as he meets the townsfolk of Stoneford, all of whom are devoted to this annual British Christmas tradition, Brad is forced to leave his ego in check. Can he pull off a panto and bring the local community together? Oh no he can’t! Oh yes he can!

Then, in the final part, Foo Fighters bassist and founding member Nate Mendel, aloing with a stellar line-up of four-string heroes, explores the vital power of bass in music, taking us to the studio where the Foo Fighters’ basslines are born, and swaps some stories with friend and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

Classic Christmas Movies
The Muppet Christmas Carol / It’s a Wonderful Life – Parts 1 & 2 of 4
Classic Movies’ The Story of…’s resident film critic Ian Nathan presents a four-part series exploring some of our perennial Christmas favourites. Each episode will tell the story of a single film, delving into the trials and triumphs behind it and identifying the ingredients that elevated it from a simple movie to a classic.
In our first episode, we revisit a film that some consider to be their favourite adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale – A Muppet Christmas Carol. Starring Michael Caine alongside our favourite Muppet characters like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo, the film offers younger viewers an appealing entryway into the library of adaptations of the Dickens’ novella and gives older viewers plenty to chuckle over to boot. And in the second instalment, we explore a film that requires almost no introduction, Frank Capra’s iconic It’s a Wonderful Life starring James Stewart as the lost soul brought back from the brink by his guardian angel, Clarence. For many, it’s just not Christmas without a screening of the film, and we delve into exactly why that is.
