Writer-director Moin Hussain reviews scenes from his short, Naptha, and his debut feature, Sky Peals, drawing parallels between the two and explaining how he made the move from short to feature film.
Naptha, which was BFI NETWORK supported, premiered internationally at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 as part of the Critics’ Week section, where it showcased its unique blend of science fiction and human drama.
Moin’s debut feature, Sky Peals – backed by the BFI Filmmaking Fund and produced by Michelle Stein – premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2023. It explores complex themes of identity, belonging, and familial ties.
Moin’s work exemplifies the power of diverse storytelling and the importance of nurturing emerging filmmakers.
Sky Peals is out in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 9 August.
The BFI is proud to support bold and original storytellers, thanks to National Lottery players.
