At Netflix, we’ve seen firsthand just how great stories can travel. They can travel across countries, across languages and even across mediums. That’s why so many of our most popular series and films are based on books, like Bridgerton, Leave the World Behind, Lupin, Society of the Snow, The Queen’s Gambit, Through My Window and Fool Me Once, just to name a few.
And 2025 has been no different. So far this year, book adaptations have driven over 4.5B global views on the strength of new entries like Frankenstein, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Hunting Wives, The Thursday Murder Club, Ransom Canyon and more. In fact, book adaptations have appeared on the Global Top 10 lists every week this year.
And we’re already looking forward to the next chapter. We announced today that we’ve acquired the rights to Emily Giffin’s best-selling novel All We Ever Wanted, and it is now in development as a series adaptation with Hello Sunshine, Final Twist Productions and Quay Street Productions set to produce. This also marks our 13th collaboration with Harlan Coben, who has two adaptations, Run Away and I Will Find You, coming to Netflix in 2026.
In addition to the adaptations that have found success on Netflix, several books that have served as inspiration for our shows and movies have experienced strong resurgences timed to their streaming debuts:
- Frankenstein: “The week following the release of the film on Netflix, there was a 180% spike in sales of the movie tie-in edition of the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley,” according to the book’s publisher Penguin Random House. Additionally, Frankenstein was the sixth most searched book on Google in 2025.
- The Woman in Cabin 10: “Originally published in 2016, Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 sales jumped 190% year-over-year in response to the Netflix adaptation, with 2.3M copies now in circulation in the United States,” said Jennifer Bergstrom, SVP & Publisher, Gallery Books & Scout Press
- The Hunting Wives: “Originally published in 2021, May Cobb’s The Hunting Wives surged back into the spotlight following its Netflix premiere. In just one week, book publisher Berkley has gone back to press twice on the trade paperback and saw a +5,000% increase across all formats in the same one-week period year over year,” according to Christine Ball, EVP & Publisher, Berkley. Following release, The Hunting Wives skyrocketed to #1 on Amazon’s Best Sellers list in Women’s Psychological Fiction and #4 overall on Amazon’s Best Sellers list. Spotify also shared that The Hunting Wives audiobook saw a 605% increase in global listening in the two weeks.
- The Thursday Murder Club: Leading up to the film’s release, the book returned to the USA Today Best Sellers list. After the movie’s Netflix debut, Richard Osman’s book jumped to #5 on Amazon’s Best Sellers in Mystery, Thriller & Suspense.
- My Oxford Year: “My Oxford Year released in 2018 and we’re thrilled with all the buzz surrounding the Netflix film, bringing new life and a new audience to this charming story. Since the movie released on August 1, we immediately saw an increase in sales,” said Jennifer Hart, Deputy Publisher/SVP, William Morrow
- Ransom Canyon: “First published in 2015, Jodi Thomas’s Ransom Canyon has found a vibrant new audience thanks to its Netflix adaptation. Since the series’ release in April 2025, we’ve seen a remarkable resurgence in interest, with sales increasing dramatically across all formats featuring the tie-in artwork. This evocative story continues to captivate readers and viewers alike, proving its mainstream appeal and excitement leading into Season 2,” remarked Amy Jones, Associate Publisher/VP Marketing, Harlequin Trade Publishing.
- The Life List: “Ten plus years after originally being published, The Life List received international interest, garnering four new translation deals and renewed interest in the US following the announcement of the Netflix adaptation,” according to Jenny Bent, the book agent for the novel’s author, Lori Nelson Spielman.
- El Eternauta: “In Argentina, the series effect on the book demand resulted in soaring sales: numbers came up 900%” remarked Myriam Vidriales, from the graphic novel’s publisher, Grupo Planeta. “We have already printed 21 editions (all formats) and people do not seem to have enough of it.”
- Other recent adaptation releases that have found success on Netflix include The Dead Girls, based on Jorge Ibargüengoitia’s book; Forever, based on Judy Blume’s groundbreaking 1975 novel; Night Always Comes, based on the novel by Willy Vlautin; and the fifth and final season of YOU, based on the book series by Caroline Kepnes.
