Conclave, Edward Berger’s papal thriller starring Ralph Fiennes as the cardinal overseeing the selection of a new pope, has grabbed 12 nominations in the run-up to this year’s BAFTA awards. Its haul includes nods for best film, outstanding British film, best director, for Fiennes as best actor and Isabella Rossellini for best supporting actress.
Following with 11 nominations is Emilia Perez, Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical thriller about a trans cartel boss, which will compete for best film as well as best film not in the English language. Audiard is nominated as director, with Karla Sofía Gascón up for best actress and Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña both up for best supporting actress.
Brady Corbet’s architect saga The Brutalist took nine nominations, with seven each for Anora, Dune: Part Two and Wicked, and six each for the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and the Irish-language hip-hop comedy Kneecap….
