It’s been a tough summer 2024 for Channing Tatum; neither his starring role in his fiance Zoe Kravitz’s sinister thriller Blink Twice nor his jolly Scarlett Johansson romcom Fly to the Moon could crack a $10 million opening weekend Stateside. Tatum’s luck seems to be out; he joined the Kingsman series just as it collapsed, and even his cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine sees him relegated to the ‘where are they now?’ section alongside Jennifer Garner and Wesley Snipes. Perhaps the radioactive half-life of the toxic Magic Mike’s Last Dance is poisoning the well; either way, Tatum needs a new signature role and fast. Blink Twice actually brings something different out in Tatum, a rare villainous role that’s at odds with his generally genial output to date; he plays, sigh, yet another billionaire tech-mogul, this one called Slater King, who, double-sigh, invites a group of oddballs to his money island retreat for nefarious purposes….
