I have no notes for last night’s rewatch of Days of Thunder, but that’s not because this movie is particularly good; Tony Scott’s hard-driving NASCAR epic pretty much announced the end of a certain kind of 80’s cinema at the time, and the frustratingly bland product isn’t particularly well remembered today. And yet here we are in 2026 discussing a potential sequel with the same star in Tom Cruise, and a possible cross-over with a potential F1 sequel. Quentin Tarantino suggests that Days of Thunder is better than Grand Prix and Le Mans, but he’s wrong on both counts; Days of Thunder is far too slammed together to be a movie for the ages, but now as in 1990, just about passes the time…
