A touching story of growth, remembrance and companionship, the eight-episode Chinese-language series Forget You Not is set to tug at heartstrings on May 23. The title marks the series directorial debut of multi-talented singer and actress Rene Liu and stars Golden Bell and Golden Horse winner Hsieh Ying-Hsuan (Born for the Spotlight, Wave Makers), alongside Golden Horse award-winning actor Chin Han, who returns to Taiwanese drama after several years. The cast is joined by Wallace Huo (Light the Night), who makes a special appearance, Tracy Chou and Esther Liu.
The heartwarming family drama explores the intertwining themes of kinship, friendship, and marriage, while inspiring viewers to face life’s regrets and impermanence boldly. Sharing her experience as a first-time series director, Rene Liu says, “This is my very first drama series and a work deeply rooted in the essence of life and everyday emotions. I believe it truly reflects the realities of our world today. I hope it will touch audiences, bringing them both laughter and tears.” Producer Aileen Li adds, “We are incredibly excited to bring this story to life and to collaborate with Liu and such an outstanding creative team. Everyone involved deeply loves this story, and we’re thrilled to share it with global audiences on Netflix.”
Veteran actor Chin Han also spoke about working with director Liu, saying: “Director Liu is an outstanding actress. We previously worked together on Don’t Cry, Nanking, and though we weren’t close, we knew each other. Since Sylvia Chang is also a mutual friend of ours, when Director Liu sincerely invited me to play the role of the father, I agreed without even reading the script. Getting to work with such a dedicated director is always a great opportunity.”
He also shared an amusing behind-the-scenes story on set, noting that Director Liu is incredibly genuine. Despite the demanding job as a director, Liu cooked multiple pots of braised noodles and treated the entire crew of about 70 to 80 people. On working with director Liu, Hsieh adds, “I got to know Liu better and saw her warm and caring side. She is a director who truly considers the actors’ needs. Sometimes, while waiting on set for the cameras to be set up, I would chat with her, and she always had great insights that helped me resolve my questions about acting. She is willing to take the time to guide me through it, and she does it with love.”
Chin praised Hsieh’s dedication while discussing their on-screen father-daughter relationship, saying, “From the very first day we met until the end of filming, Hsieh remained consistent with her grace and sincerity. She was also very kind to me, always making me feel at ease. It was truly an honor to work with her.”
The newly released teaser poster captures a warm moment between the on-screen father and daughter, walking shoulder to shoulder, exuding a sense of ease and closeness. Hsieh, who shared many emotionally charged scenes with Chin, expressed, “Chin is very professional, great at leading scenes, and a senior actor who makes it easy for others to immerse themselves in the story. Acting alongside him, I often found myself crying as we delivered our lines—sometimes even in scenes where I wasn’t supposed to cry. He truly has the ability to make actors believe that, in that moment on set, he is a real father.”
