What’s coming new to BBC iPlayer this week?
The Jetty
When a fire tears through a holiday home in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman) must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit ‘love’ triangle between a man in his twenties and two underage girls. But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home.
As much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller, The Jetty asks big questions about sexual morality, identity and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind.
First Night of the Proms
Clive Myrie and special guests launch the 2024 BBC Proms season with Beethoven’s famous Fifth Symphony. A dazzling all-female line-up features pianist extraordinaire Isata Kanneh-Mason, superstar soprano Sophie Bevan and acclaimed conductor Elim Chan.
Elim, conducting her First Night debut, kicks off eight weeks of glorious music with an electrifying programme that also includes Handel’s Music for Royal Fireworks and a world premiere from 27-year-old composer Ben Nobuto.
Sophie Bevan makes a triumphant return to the Proms with Bruckner’s jubilant Psalm 150, and Isata Kanneh-Mason performs a tender and lyrical piano concerto by Clara Schumann, a composer she has championed tirelessly.
They’re joined by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Singers.
High Country
A fictional story inspired by true events, High Country is an eight-part thriller that revolves around detective Andrea (Andie) Whitford, who is transferred to the Victorian High Country and thrust into a baffling mystery of five missing persons who have vanished into the wilderness. Through an edge-of-the-seat, high-stakes investigation, Andie uncovers a complex web involving murder, deceit and revenge.

Ghosts US
Samantha and Jay throw caution to the wind when they convert their recently inherited country estate into a bed-and-breakfast. Call it mislaid plans. Not only is the place falling apart, but it’s also inhabited by spirits of previous residents – whom only Samantha can see and hear. Ghosts spins the funny, heartfelt story about a newfound dream that reveals connection and self-discovery aren’t just for the living.
Life and the afterlife changes at Woodstone after one of the ghosts ascends to heaven leaving Sam and Jay along with the rest of the ghosts must learn how to adapt to this change.
Daley: Olympic Superstar
Daley is the definitive feature documentary of the life of double Olympic decathlon champion, Daley Thompson.
With unprecedented access and never before seen archive, the film chronicles his legendary sporting achievements, but, for the first time, also reveals the personal struggles he faced to rise from the humblest of beginnings to become the ultimate Olympian; a Superstar who then has to reconcile what it took to become the greatest all around athlete in the world with his own humanity as a son and as a father.
