The hugely popular National Cinema Day is set to make a welcome return to UK and Irish cinemas on Saturday 31 August.
An impressive 712 cinemas will participate this year with tickets available from £4 in the UK and €5 in the Republic of Ireland. Led by cross-industry body Cinema First, the enterprise is keenly supported by the Film Distributors’ Association and UK Cinema Association alongside numerous other film industry partners.
Celebrating the power of film and the joy of the cinemagoing experience, National Cinema Day returns for a third consecutive year backed by a significant marketing campaign and the support of key partners. Aiming to encourage the broadest and largest audiences possible to visit their local cinema, participating venues include the biggest exhibition chains, smaller cinema circuits and many independent operators.
Ahead of this weekend’s event, Iain Jacob, Chair of Cinema First said:
‘National Cinema Day is fast becoming a Great British cultural event, sharing the joy and sociability of cinema across the nation. This year we have more support than ever, allowing us to show a fantastically wide choice of films at amazing value. Every year this event has got bigger, with more and more people sharing their love of cinema. We know that 2024 will be the best yet.’
Now firmly cemented as a much-anticipated part of the annual cinemagoing calendar, audiences will have the opportunity to watch a wide array of titles including recent and new releases as well as many old favourites. Previous years have seen National Cinema Day admissions across the five home nations reach record daily levels, achieving three times the equivalent day’s footfall in the pre-pandemic era.
More information about National Cinema Day 2024 is available in Cinema First’s press release.
