Today, Apple Original Films announced it has landed “Liminal,” a new sci-fi thriller starring Vanessa Kirby (“Pieces of a Woman,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Wonder Man,” “Watchmen”). Hailing from Apple Studios, the feature will be directed by Louis Leterrier (“Fast X,” “Lupin,” upcoming “11817”).
“Liminal” is a sci-fi action-thriller based on the AWA graphic novel “Telepaths” by Eisner Award winner J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting and Brian Reber.
Zach Studin will produce for AWA Studios. Kevin Walsh will produce for The Walsh Company via his overall deal with Apple Studios. Ray Angelic will serve as executive producer, along with Straczynski, Epting and Reber. The project was written by Justin Rhodes (“Terminator: Dark Fate”). Co-producers are Patrick McNamara for The Walsh Company, and Juliet Kirby.
Momentum around the Apple Original Films slate and Apple Studios continues to grow since the debut of Apple TV. Following its theatrical release last year, Academy Award winner “F1” debuted as the No. 1 movie at the global box office and became the highest grossing sports feature of all time. Featuring an unparalleled cinematic experience, the film stands as Apple’s highest-grossing theatrical film, and broke records following its streaming premiere on Apple TV. Apple Original Films also recently released “The Lost Bus,” an Academy Award-nominated, action-packed and emotional rescue drama directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Greengrass, starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera; “Highest 2 Lowest,” the latest feature reuniting Spike Lee with Denzel Washington for the fifth time; and Emmy Award-nominated feature “The Gorge,” starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy. Soon-to-premiere Apple Original Films include “Outcome,” “The Dink,” “Mayday,” “Matchbox the Movie,” “Way of the Warrior Kid” and “Being Heumann.”
