Kneecap leads the pack going into this year’s British Independent Film Awards, picking up 14 nominations. The haul for Rich Peppiatt’s exuberant comedy about the eponymous west Belfast hip-hop trio, which was backed by the BFI Filmmaking Fund with National Lottery money, includes nods for best director, best British independent film and best joint lead performance for the Kneecap trio Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh.
Love Lies Bleeding, Rose Glass’s bodybuilding noir, takes second place with 12 nominations, including best director, best British independent film and best joint lead performance for stars Katy O’Brian and Kristen Stewart.
