Nominations that Make History
The 2024 BRIT Awards nominations are led by RAYE, who has made history with a record-breaking seven nominations. RAYE is nominated for prestigious categories such as Artist of the Year and Mastercard Album of the Year. This incredible achievement surpasses the previous record of six nominations held by Gorillaz, Craig David, and Robbie Williams.
Dua Lipa, another music powerhouse, has received three nominations and has already been confirmed as a performer for the main show. Central Cee and J Hus also make a strong impact with four nominations each. Other artists with multiple nominations include Blur, Calvin Harris, Dave, Little Simz, Olivia Dean, and Young Fathers.
Notably, the legendary Rolling Stones receive a nomination for their first BRIT Award in over a decade, adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event.
A Focus on Representation and Inclusion
In an effort to improve representation and inclusion, The BRIT Awards made significant changes to the nomination process. The number of nominees for both Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year has been increased from five to ten. This change aims to provide a platform for a more diverse range of artists.
More than half of the 2024 BRITs nominations feature women, either as solo artists or as part of all-woman or mixed-gender groups. This percentage rises to 57% when including women in mixed-gender groups. The recognition of female talent reflects the growing prominence and influence of women in the music industry.
Introducing New Award Categories
The BRIT Awards 2024 introduces new genre award categories to showcase the versatility and creativity of UK music. The R&B Act category has been added, alongside existing categories such as Alternative/Rock Act, Dance Act, Pop Act, and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.
The winners of the genre awards will be determined through a public vote exclusively on Instagram. Fans can show support for their favorite artists by commenting on the category Reel or creating their own Reel using specific hashtags. This interactive voting process allows fans to actively participate in recognizing and celebrating their favorite genres and artists.
The BRITs Partnerships and Initiatives
The BRIT Awards 2024 is proud to collaborate with various partners to enhance the overall experience for fans and artists. Mastercard returns as the headline partner for the 26th year, bringing unique experiences and opportunities to cardholders. Hilton joins as the Official Hotel Partner, offering special experiences to nominees, performers, and presenters. TRESemmé makes its debut as the Official Haircare Partner and Best New Artist category sponsor.
In addition to these partnerships, The BRITs is teaming up with Music Declares Emergency to support the NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign. This global movement encourages musicians and music lovers to take action on climate change. Through monthly climate action challenges and giveaways, music fans can actively contribute to positive environmental initiatives.
The BRIT Trust: Empowering Through Music
The BRIT Trust, the music industry’s charity, plays a vital role in supporting education and well-being through music. The Trust is funded by The BRIT Awards and the Music Industry Trusts Award. Over the years, the Trust has distributed over £28 million to various charities and causes. These include The BRIT School, Nordoff and Robbins, Mind, Music Support, and other organizations promoting music education and mental health.
The BRITs Voting Academy and Process
The BRITs Voting Academy is responsible for determining the shortlists and overall winners of The BRIT Awards. Composed of approximately 1300 individuals from across the music industry, the Academy ensures a balanced representation of gender and ethnicity. The voting process is overseen by Civica, an independent voting scrutineer.
