The Nazi Cartel

‌Part 1 of 3

In 1979, Michael Levine, an undercover agent for the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), was deployed to Argentina, where he became aware of a man who was previously completely unknown: Roberto Suárez. Suárez, a cattle rancher from a long-established and powerful Bolivian family, had professionalized the cocaine market in Bolivia in the 1970s and, within a short period of time, had taken control of 80 per cent of the global cocaine trade. He was a bon vivant, family man, passionate pilot, and carefree host of lavish parties on his magnificent estate in Santa Cruz. To advance his business, he attempted to influence Bolivian politics—and utilized his acquaintance with a respected German with excellent connections to the secret service, military, and politics: Klaus Altmann. His real identity is completely different, because Altmann is actually the wanted Nazi criminal Klaus Barbie, who, as the “Butcher of Lyon,” was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Jews.
