Having been a summer of firsts for her – first kiss, first crush – summer when Lily experiences her first kiss, Lily is coming to realise she likes other girls, something she can share with her gay best friend, Simon. However, a spiteful moment in the changing rooms marks her out as a target for bullying by some of her classmates. This becomes increasingly ugly and violent, impacting on her mental health and self-confidence. Not knowing where to turn to, she finds support from both Simon and an older woman, Oonagh, to help her find the strength to face her bullies and be her true authentic self.

Having made the highly acclaimed short film Lily (2016), director Graham Cantwell along with award-winning Katie McNeice have developed it into a feature length drama, Who We Love, featuring the same principal cast. Nominated for six Irish Film and Television Awards including best director and film, it stars Clara Harte, Dean Quinn and award-winning actress Amy-Joyce Hastings (TV’s The Tudors, Sanctuary). There’s also supporting roles from Danielle Galligan (Netflix’s Shadow & Bone), and Niamh McCormack (Netflix’s Everything Now), who both appear in the upcoming Netflix drama, House of Guinness.

Who We Love is an Irish coming-of-age drama that explores issues around bullying in schools and cruelty that young gay and lesbian people can be subjected to as well as depicting Dublin’s vibrant, sometimes dark LGBTQ+ scene.
